Downtown Rescue Mission
The Asbury Outreach to the Downtown Rescue Mission is a heartwarming ministry that offers a wonderful opportunity to share the Good News of Jesus. The Downtown Rescue Mission offers homeless men and women of Huntsville food and a place to stay. It is a Christian Mission that requires its residents to attend worship services and to refrain from alcohol and drugs while at the shelter. All their money and services are donated from individuals and organizations such as Churches. None of their funding comes from the Federal Government. The Women's and Children Center is the only homeless shelter for Women and Children in Huntsville . Currently, the main part of Asbury's ministry to the Mission is the weeknight Bible Study classes for the resident children at the Mission . We share a Bible lesson and themed activities such as games, crafts, and snacks with the children while their mothers attend the DRM's worship service. Asbury volunteers go down to the mission two days a month and work with the children. For the past two years, the ministry has also coordinated getting gifts for the women and children at Christmas. This year Asbury gave Christmas presents to 17 women and 9 children to help show the love of Jesus during this special time of year. There are many other opportunities to serve at the Downtown Rescue Mission such as doing maintenance work, serving food at the shelter, participating in worship services and helping at the Downtown Rescue Mission Thrift Store.
