Profession of Faith

You can become a member of Asbury in one of the following ways:

Profession of Faith - This is the declaration to the church that Jesus Christ is your Savior and Lord.  Jesus declared that when we profess Him before others He will declare our names before God the Father.  As Jesus himself directed, a profession of faith is to be followed by water baptism.  Profession of faith is the first way any person can become a member of the Body of Christ at Asbury.

How does one make a profession of faith?

A profession of faith is made during a worship service.  At the conclusion of each service an invitation is given inviting any person to respond to the call of Christ to receive Him as Savior and to make a profession of faith.  A pastor asks the following questions:
            1. Do you turn from your sin and will you seek to live a right life before God?
            2. Do you profess Jesus Christ as your Savior?
            3. With God’s help will you serve Jesus Christ as your Lord?

If a person also wishes to become a member of the Asbury family one additional question is asked.

            4. Will you support the Asbury family by praying for the needs of the church and others, by giving financially as you are able, by being present to worship God and study His word and by finding your place of service?

How does one reach a place where he/she is ready to make a profession of faith?

A profession of faith arises out of the experience of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior.  Receiving Jesus as Savior means the following:
            1.  I believe that Jesus is God revealed on earth who died for the sins all.
            2.  I believe that through His death on the cross the price for my sin has been paid.
            3.  I believe that Jesus conquered death through resurrection and is alive today.
            4.  I confess that I am a sinner who needs the salvation that God alone offers.
            5.  I ask Jesus Christ to forgive me of my sins.
            6.  I entrust my life to Him and I surrender control of my life to His Lordship.

If you would like to receive the gift of forgiveness and eternal life the prayer below is offered for you to pray.

Holy God, I thank you for loving me.  I confess that I have sinned against you.  I believe that Jesus Christ came to earth and died on a cross to pay for my sins, and that You raised Him from the dead.  I ask you, Lord Jesus to forgive me and save me from my sins.  I place my life in your hands.  I now belong to you.  Thank you for the gifts of forgiveness, eternal life and your Spirit living within me.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.”

We would love to hear from you if you have other questions or would like to talk to someone. Email Robin Waldrop to request more information.
