Asbury Mission Team Area: Ends of the Earth

Arthur, Mary Alice and their three children, Joshua, Ben and Mary Beth, serve with The Mission Society team in Peru.  Arthur conducts evangelism events and church planting, and coordinates discipleship groups.  He assists many short-term mission team groups in a wide variety of projects and activities, from community health, agricultural and water sanitation projects to literacy training and teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).  Mary Alice facilitates Children’s Ministries by organizing “Kids’ Clubs” to evangelize and disciple children.  She also conducts training for local leaders for children’s ministry.  Arthur and Mary Alice have an ever-widening influence among the people of Peru.  Asbury’s partnership with them intersects in several goals and strategic projects.  Please pray for their protection and continued effectiveness as they speak the Word of God boldly every where they travel in this diverse country.

Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance. "Take away the stone," he said.  John 11:38

As Arthur Ivey repeatedly studied this passage on the resurrection of Lazarus, he began to understand part of the call God was placing on his heart.  He understood that when Jesus asked the people to remove the stone from Lazarus’ tomb that this was a call to evangelism. To share the Gospel story is to remove the stones from people’s spiritual tombs of sin and death so that they can respond to Jesus’ call to come out of death into eternal life.  God was calling Arthur to become a “divine grave robber.”  Mary Alice soon after also had the calling confirmed in her own heart.
